Short Biography:

Miki Aurora is an artist, writer and esotericist based in Vancouver BC, the unceded land of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh peoples.

The themes Miki presents in her work are often inspired by her occult practice and investigations into emancipatory politics. After a period spent living on the street, Miki became involved with a group of ascetic esotericists also experiencing homelessness. Their time together had an impact on her occult practice and activism.

Miki’s most recent work was a solo show of confessional artworks at a gallery in Florida. It was a love letter to her former self and to her friends within the community of people in Vancouver experiencing addiction at the same time as homelessness. It conjured emotion that she will use as the emotional fuel for her pivot towards social practice artwork and research.

Full Biography:

I am an artist, writer, and esotericist based in Vancouver BC, the unceded land of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh peoples.

The themes I present in my work are often inspired by my occult practice and investigations into emancipatory politics. After a period spent living on the street, I became involved with a group of ascetic esotericists also experiencing homelessness. Our time together had an impact on my occult practice and activism.

In 2016 I created a performance art piece that debuted in Vancouver. It was centered around conceptualizing the objectification that has resulted from entertainment media’s depiction of women.

In 2019 I premiered an experimental documentary about a process of healing from sexual assault through a cathartic ritual held between two close friends. That year I also co-curated a lecture, exhibition, and rave in support of Net Neutrality, called Digital Sanctuary. It helped fundraise for Open Privacy.

Most recently, I exhibited a solo show of confessional artworks at a gallery in Florida. The show was about my feelings towards my friends within the community of people in Vancouver experiencing addiction at the same time as homelessness. It was also about the emotions of the time when I was 19 and living on the street. It was a love letter to them and my former self. It conjured emotion that I will use as the emotional fuel for my pivot towards social practice artwork and research.
